WEAPONS
The core focus of the AMOK! KIDS! weapons program is the short stick. By learning to use both single and
double sticks, their physical hand-eye and left-right hand co-ordination is developed. Utilizing
“indestructible,” training sticks, they practice power striking, complex striking motions and
controlled stick to stick drills while working with a partner.
With the use of protective padding (hand and head gear) as well as specially developed foam coated
training sticks, the KIDS! are given the opportunity to explore the combative applications of stick training.
This stick sparring also allows the KIDS! to test their skills in a safe environment.
When learning a new weapon, the student is first taught the history, background and traditional use of the
weapon. Students then personalize and express the use of these weapons and are encouraged to
create their own forms (kata) for competition purposes.
KIDS! weapons include:
Staff - both the Japanese (Bo) and Chinese (Gun) versions, Whip chain, Tonfa, Sai, Three sectional staff,
Chinese Fan, Bokken (wooden version of Samurai Sword) and the
Nunchaku.

More advanced KIDS! are encouraged to assist others
in their practices. It is amazing how much they learn when they help with teaching.
